WAKE UP, AMERICA. Ignorance is not bliss.
Today in my International Relations class, my professor asked the class: “What grade would you give the United States in regards to human rights?”
6 people raised their hands.
6 People stuck a dumb grin on their face and said “definitely an A!”
…………
An A? How does refusing to cooperate with international Human Rights programs (we haven’t signed a damn thing in years), looking the other way while human rights violations are flaring so long as it doesn’t threaten us (hello, Somalia), and pointing fingers while ignoring our own issues warrant an A? By that logic I should have a 100 in my Spanish class even though I just bombed my test. (Professor Evans, are you reading this?)
There’s a difference between patriotism and ignorance, people.
I came home angered enough at the realization that people have such blind confidence. I then somehow fell into a conversation about political preferences for the upcoming election. When I ask you who you’re voting for this season, I do NOT want to hear your PARENTS’ OPINIONS. And it is so blatantly obvious when you have some loud “opinion” that is backed by nothing other than what mommy and daddy told you. Obama’s a socialist antichrist. Mitt Romney eats money for dinner, poops quarters, and feeds those to his dogs. You’re not fooling anyone. Do research before you proclaim your “ideology”. Please. For the love of God.
